A REAL MERMAID
A REAL MERMAID
I couldn't believe it. Sitting on my board in the middle of the ocean I noticed something bobbing up for air. I looked down, picked it up and held this - a mermaid - her hair tangled in seaweed too perfectly unkempt to be real. Not wanting to risk losing her, I slipped her into the front of my wetsuit and rode a wave into shore. She left with me that afternoon, returning to the beach with me the next morning. Excited to set up a proper scene in which to take her portrait, I quickly scoped out the beach and to my amazement, the most wonderful little camp filled with driftwood, seashells, feathers and rocks was already awaiting her. I set her down and after repositioning her a couple of times, we got the shot. As long as I live I'll never forget that one summer in late August, when I discovered a tangled hair mermaid making her way to shore.
