If you get there early enough, you can have the whole ocean almost to yourself.  But as the sun peeks out and waves pick up, so do the people.  Solace is one of my favorite parts of surfing, however the comradery is equally valuable.  Usually we only utter a few words to one another, but you can feel that you’re in it together — longing for the wave of the day, a clean drop, a smooth ride.  Life is a lot like surfing I think.  Patience is a virtue out there and ego works to your disadvantage. 

Often when I’m sitting on my board out in the ocean, the lyrics from a song called ‘Beyond the Blue’ flow through my mind and life is put in it’s proper perspective:
“Let go of all you cannot hold onto to, for the hope beyond the blue.”
